Is purchasing Glasses online a good idea?

We’ve all been there before, we are in desperate need of glasses because we accidently lost or broke ours from playing with the kids, working in the yard or stepping on them when we awake in the morning. Whatever the reason may be, it seems we all go through glasses faster than we should. I’m always losing, scratching or breaking my glasses, which is one of the reasons I often ware contacts. Although contacts are great, I still prefer glasses at the end of the day to rest my dried-out eyes.

Replacing glasses can be somewhat of a pain as it often requires an appointment with the eye doctor who often times can’t get you in until the end of the week and then when you do go in you are limited to the frame choices available in the exhibit room – not to mention the difficulty of trying to select frames with dilated eyes looking through a distorted mirror. Well, I’ve learned I’m not alone with theses frustrations. A group of students from the University of Pennsylvania also shared similar frustrations and decided to do something about it starting a company that specializes in providing glasses and sunglasses to customers through an online experience.

Warby Parker

Warby Parker is the name of an online startup company that provides glasses and sunglasses to the public. No more waiting online to meet with the eye doctor or being limited to choosing frames based off of a skimpy exhibit room. The online experience provided convenience for customers to choose between hundreds of different types of frames and glasses. If you feel apprehensive about selecting glasses online, they have a program where they’ll send you five pairs of glasses at no charge so you can try before you buy. I’ve been purchasing glasses online for years and love it! I only go into the office if I’m in need of an updated prescription or due for an appointment. Next time your glasses break you may consider giving Warby Parker a try. http://www.warbyparker.com

  1. Hello John,

That is all about the customer service of Warby Parker. In the beginning, they set out to re-imagine the eyewear shopping experience. I read that initially, they wanted to use facial recognition technology and to incorporate it into the design company strategy allowing customers to virtually test frames. There was some feedback where some customers still wanted a personalized experience so the company came to the co-founders’ homes to try styles. Later, the try-on system, where five sets of frames are sent postage-free, was adopted.

I think they have become very popular just on their customer service and adaptability strategies. Reading several articles about the company definitely prove their success.

  2. @jharrington29 – Thanks for pointing this out! Focusing on the customers’ experience, which was a driving factor that inspired Warby parker to re-imaging the eyewear shopping experience. – John
